Raigad - 19th July 2009

General information :
Raigad is a hill fort. It is situated near Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra, India.  Shivaji Maharaj made the fort his capital in 1674 when he was decided to declare him self as a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and Raigad became first capital of Maratha Swarajya.  


The fort information : 
Height : 2830 feet from see level
There are approximately 1737 steps leading to the fort
The fort was looted and destroyed by the British upon siege
It is located in the Sahyadri mountain range.

Gangasagar talav : The entire construction of the Raigad was made out of the stones from the hill itself and this way Gangasagar talav took it's birth.

How to go:
Reach Mahad, a taluka place in Raigad district, by road. From Mahad, catch either bus or rickshaw to reach base village Pachad.(24 K.m.).

Best season to visit : 
- Winter :  Awesome  
- Rainy : Superb 
- Summer : Nice
