Mahuli gad is a hill fort. It is situated near Asangaon, Thane district of Maharashtra, India



The fort information
Height : 2785 feet from see level
Grade : Hard
Time : 2.5 hrs from Mahuli, Base Village.
Location : Near Asangaon, Manas mandir, Dist-Thane.





























History: In 1485 this place was came under the rule of Nijamshahi dynasty. In the 1635-36, Shahaji Raje transferred himself with Jijabai and Shivaji to Mahuli. When Khan Jaman attacked the fort, Shahaji asked Portuguese for help, who refused and Shahaji surrendered this fort.  Shivaji took this fort from Mughals on 8 Jan 1658. In 1661 it was given back and again it was won by Shivaji. In treaty of Purandar, in 1665, Marathas lost these forts again. In Feb 1670, Shivaji Maharaj tried to conquer Mahuli, but failed, because of an alert Manohardas Gaud, who was in charge of the fort. Thousands of Marathas were killed. Manohardas Gaud soon gave up his place and Alveerdi Beg took over. On 16 June 1670, after two months, Moropant Pingle conquered the forts and Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad became part Swarajya. Till 1817, Shivaji’s dynasty owned the fort.
Mahuli is one among the challenging regions of the majestic Sahyadris, and it is the highest point in the Thane district.











Must visit : 
Holy place, Shiv Mandir, Boleswera, Rameswara, Sangameswara and Visveswera are some of the famous Hindu temples located in Mahuli. Mahuli-Fort is a prominent place for trekkers, as it has beautiful hill forts and mountain peaks.
